WELCOME TO THE NORTHANGER WEBSITE!
Yes, we know that Expeditioning is probably not a proper word. But it accurately defines a way of life that we are living.
Northanger is our Damien II steel ketch that has been our home, transport and expedition vessel for the past 18 years. She has safely taken us to the extremes, to places on this incredible planet where we have been but the privileged few to visit.
Our hope is that with this new site, we can share the stories and photos of the voyages we have made and to update you on the current expeditions we are planning. Our expeditioning has led us to the high latitudes of the Antarctic Peninsula for first ascents on rock and ice, and to the Arctic, climbing the big walls of Greenland and to wintering over in a remote bay on the south coast of Ellesmere Island.
Sailing to climb has been our motto since we began but now like the word expeditioning, our style is evolving. Recently we have broadened our focus using the experience we have earned to include science, art and the goals based on the dreams of others. The common thread is remote locations with access only by sea, and Northanger the expedition vessel.
Stay tuned as we develop this site with stories, slide shows, grumblings, news, gear reports and more.
